Aux Trois Crayons

1/4 sheet Canson paper, using Charcoal pencil, white and sanguine conte - from this evening.

'Aux Trois Crayons' literally means 'with three crayons/pencils', which was a popular method with the renaissance masters. I thought I'd give it a try as well. Please view in FULL size.

One conte sketch

Haven't been posting for a while... so here's a study sketch in conte. I couldn't trace the ref source, but my sincere gratitude to photographer and model.

Twisting torso

I was exploring various body types, how each fulfills some artistic need or the other, regardless of age or gender... and was drawn to this ref, especially how the pelvis is twisted in relation to the upper torso (which is viewed side-ways) giving rise to a seemingly exaggerated upper-lower body width difference. I also loved quick-sketching the golden sheen on her dress.

A3, a combination of watersoluble pastels and regular ones.

Bringing out my acrylics...

Its exasperating how fast one loses skill, laying off of a medium for a while. For me, its been only about a month, but even then if felt as if I was using acrylic as a novice... arrgh! Anyway, the point of this blog is to share a journey, and document the failures along with the successes. So here is it...

Perhaps, the grayscale version looks a little better. Sigh... clutching at straws :(
